Regardless if your applying for the CEO position or for a server position at a restaurant, to be hired requires the same demeanor. Every move and every word you say will be analyzed. Your attire and attitude will be scrutinized. Present yourself in the following ways for your interview.
Appearence: One of the most obvious requirements of a sucessful interview is appearance. Dressing appropriately is imperative to gain the respect you need to present your qualities to a hiring manager. Just because its a restaurant job doens’t mean that you can show up in khakis and a collared tee shirt. Either way you look at it, it’s an interview. Wear slacks, a button up, a tie and clean shoes. Iron everything with a wrinkle. Be sure your nails are clean and trimmed. Shave your facial hair or trim it to a respectable length. Many people still obtain employment from an interview they dressed inappropriaetly for, but that was a risk they were willing to take. Attire reflects your organization and selfrespect. Dress in clothes that reflect what a professional you can be. If you aren’t sure what to wear, ask someone.
Attitude: Another easy way to gain the confidence from a hiring manager is approach the interview with a professional attitude. Be courteous, listen, respond to questions with short and consise answers. If you want to be respected than show your respect. Don’t provide answers to questions that were not asked. Remain calm and personable. Approaching a Waiter, waitress, server position with a professional attitude is definitely a plus, but there will be times when your individual personality is appropriate. That time will come after you’ve been hired, are comfortable in your environment and know what is expected of you.
Be Prepared: If there is anything logistically you can do to prepare for a waiter, waitress, server position it’s think ahead. Consider all the questions that will be asked of you. There are lists of possible questions available online and if you are able, you should review them. Questions will tpyically cover employment history, why you left from your last job, why you think you are right for this job. Most questions are opened ended so don’t ramble. Think of your answer and report if back in 1-2 sentences.
These are the basics to having a successful interview for any waiter, waitress, server position in a restaurant. Above all, relax and be confident in what you offer as an individual.
