Choosing a golf club is not as easy as looking at the price tag. The most expensive clubs usually look great, and have a huge amount of technology in them or used in the production of them, but that doesn’t automatically mean they are the best clubs for you.
The best golf irons now are the ones with a cavity back design, they have extra metal added to the back of the club head around the edge, and then more metal at the bottom on the back with a cavity between that weight and the club face. The extra weight around the edge helps to stiffen the head so it doesn’t twist on impact and increases the size of the sweetspot, while the weight near the bottom helps you get the ball up into the air. As pretty much all the standard irons are already a cavity back design then there are no massive differences between them.
Yet if you look at the world of drivers then the companies have a lot more room to innovate with and there are all sorts of different things being tried out in this field. The square driver is an example of this innovation, by adding extra weight and support to the corners of the head, which gives it that square shape at address, then they have massively increased the MOI and therefore the size of the sweetspot. There are also drivers with two faces (one on the inside of the head) which are supposed to give a lot of forgiveness, ones with movable weights on, and ones where you can take out a tool and adjust the properties of the club right there on the course.
