There is a great increase in the popularity of outdoor kitchens and if you want to have an outdoor kitchen then you must have a basic design. You can design your outdoor kitchen on a computer and then proceed to copy it. Cold areas like refrigerators and hot areas like grills and cooking tops, sinks and counters as well as storage should be thought off properly and placed accordingly. Each one has to be allocated a proper space and it should be adequate.
The outdoor kitchen is a great idea. Not only do guests and family members interact and get involved in the cooking and eating process, but all can actively participate while enjoying the party. Also some foods like fish or curry create lingering odors indoors and such foods are best cooked outdoors as they will be better cooked and enjoyed outdoors.
The outdoor kitchen has to be functional and practical. You need lesser appliances and even drawers and other things. In fact you need not even have a fridge outdoors or a freezer. What you need is a good quality grill, a small wood burning oven and perhaps a small gas stove. The grill can be used for grilling vegetables and cooking meat and the oven can be used for breads, pizzas, roasts and other food items.
You have to invest in good quality products but it depends on whether your use of an outdoor kitchen is regular or not. If you have a long term outdoor kitchen in mind then stainless steel provides a good sanitary surface which can be easily cleaned and is suitable for any type of weather. Stone counters are good but aesthetically they are not pleasing. Your counters should be grease resistant and stain resistant. You can use some patio material for this.
When you design an outdoor kitchen, you naturally must have guests in mind and design it in such a way that the dining area, lounging area and cooking area are side by side. The outdoor cook should not be isolated from the rest of the party. There will necessarily be conversation and interaction with the people in the kitchen area and those outside it. You must have shades for the area. Pergolas and awning make great and beautiful ones. You can design them in such a way that they are a delight to be under. Also there has to be proper rain shelter in the event of rain so that guests can migrate to other places without affecting the party ambience.
You can have a portable propane heater or a Coleman outdoor fireplace which will give everyone comfort and enjoyment. Also you have to plan adequate entertainment in the form of music or videos. Guests will enjoy that. The most important thing is that the lighting has to be ample. It should not be too bright which will not be comfortable nor should it be too less so that guests will have difficulty in seeing what they are eating.
