Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure which often requires a trip to a specialist. However, skin needling or micro-needling is a type of collagen induction therapy which can be conducted by yourself in your own house, in your own time; this makes wrinkles less visible, reduces acne scarring and reduces stretch marks.
A common factor in the formation of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin is a lack of collagen. Using a skin roller encourages collagen production in the skin, which helps to reduce and even remove them.
Microneedling (skin needling) is a process carried out using a skin roller that is covered with lots of tiny needles. These needles break the uppermost layer of skin and gently separate the pores of the skin. This process has two significant bonuses; it effectively triggers collagen creation at the same time as allowing creams applied to the skin to be absorbed more effectively through the topmost layer (epidermis) of skin. Skin needling (microneedling) creates a very minor trauma which lasts for about an hour and doesn’t cause any broken skin or bleeding to occur in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.
The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the skin needling, encourage collagen production in the second layer of skin and it creates the right environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key ingredients help the skin to cosmetically repair.
There are several alternatives to Micro Needling, and a lot of these require visits to a specialist. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a Micro needling roller at home is generally much cheaper.
